In this time of technology and the increase in convenient living, I have noticed a tendency for people to pressure themselves towards perfectionism. A few weeks ago a colleague was describing how stressed they were in relation to a research project they were undertaking. Almost by way of justification they said ‘well, it’s because I am a perfectionist, everything just has to be right”. My reply was, “..well how is that working out for you?”. My colleague simply looked at me, almost confused at my suggestion that perfectionism isn’t perhaps the most productive state of mind to choose.
You see, I believe that the way we think is a choice, in fact we make somewhere in the region of 33,000 choices per day. So if you gave yourself permission to choose your frames and states of mind and your meanings, what would you choose to think?
